ESC
to Convert Northrop Grumman Technical Manuals
to Electronic Files
Fairfax, VA
– Edmond Scientific Company (ESC) has secured
a contract with Northrop Grumman Norden
Systems to convert legacy technical data
from paper to electronic files for the highly-sophisticated
Radar Set AN/SPQ-9B system. The
contract calls for the maintenance manuals to
meet the U.S. Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare
Systems Command (SPAWAR) requirement
for a Class IV Interactive Electronic Technical
Manual (IETM).
ESC will convert data and graphics in accordance
with guidelines provided in the Navy’s Interactive
Electronic Technical Manual Operation Plan (ETMOP).
Under the contract, ESC will deconstruct the
manuals into logical and identifiable blocks of
information that mirror the XML schemas. ESC also
will convert diagrams, schematics and flowcharts
to Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG)
format and convert photos to JPEG format as specified
in the ETMOP.
The initial advantage to Northrop Grumman
will be the establishment of a centralized and
controlled single source of technical information.
The ESC conversion process also will facilitate
ease of updating source material that has a frequent
change of revision cycle and provide a centrally
located and controlled database that will add
a new dimension to authoring content. With this
content stored in a database, integration of information
with other systems such as training and logistics
for multiple users with different levels of experience
will be possible.
ESC’s extensive success
in developing and distributing IETMs
both for the government and commercial clients
has shown that ESC possesses the high level of
knowledge and experience necessary to meet all
SPAWAR requirements.
